BIOGRAPHY| A KINGDOM OF FAUX PAS
After leaving The Pipettes, touring with The Heavy, singing with Pink Floyd, and dancing with Chuck Berry (with some choral writing & a few opera’s thrown in for good measure), Beth Mburu-Bowie took a rough tumble through the other side of the looking glass where she was held captive until she was deemed fit to discern a voice of her own.
Currently collaborating with Friendly Fires, Hercules & Love Affair, Thumpers, Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip, Metronomy, among many others. She is quietly building up an arsenal of tongue in cheek pop ditties to mess with your head.

Taking inspiration from her diverse musical background, the spirit of Queen Elizabeth I, and that time she demanded her nursemaid dress up as Mary Poppins, Mburu-Bowie took on the sobriquet ‘HowAboutBeth’ and began to paint songs from the past and the future about places she’s been, but never been. This culminated in the creation of of charmingly intricate, drunk, & off-kilter experiments in pop song called ‘Rabid Ballads’; an open invitation to the British public to melt their stiff upper lip by toying with the boundaries of propriety and decorum.
Running is a glorious song that comes from somewhere altogether different. HowAboutBeth’s layered soulful vocals and unconventional arrangements are more concerned with what feels right, than what’s the norm. Rabid Ballads celebrate the more awkward, or peculiar things in life using an array of voices, synths, strings, horns, harps, bass, tuned percussion and drums. They are rough & unpolished, move in odd directions, but at their core they are very much pop songs - pop songs with the intention of melting & invading brains & establishing kingdoms.
She says of her work “I started with the voice because that is where the breath is, then all the other parts were composed instinctively. I wanted to write an experience; not just another collection of perfectly quantised loops & tonalities with ‘beginning, middle and end’ sequences that don’t amount to much. I was brutal in editing anything that didn’t produce a strong reaction in me. Life isn’t just about surviving, or getting by on routine; we lead unpredictable lives, and that is perfectly normal too - it shouldn’t be hidden from pop songwriting”

Having already received over 30,000 online plays of first-stage demos and acquiring comparisons to Feist, Bjork, and Kate Bush, the upcoming years will see HowAboutBeth & Rabid Ballads unleashed across the world through the medium of live performance and recorded songs.
