Book Slam

Those wonderful and clever curators at Book Slam tweeted the above regarding the HowAboutBeth performance for Book Slam at The Tabernacle a few weeks ago. It’s possibly the most electrifying thing I’ve heard all year. I still don’t know what to say but I hear that the baton has been passed to Jamie XX, Giles Peterson, and Kate Tempest - tripple awesome. 

Friends, loved ones, and loved ones - it has been a smashing year. Here is to some more Gold and Faerie (Elizabethan spelling) dust for all of us, before it is over.

BE(TH)STIVAL

Yes, yes. 

This joke has been going for a while now. It wasn’t even funny the first time, but I’m so glad to be returning to Bestival that I thought it would be a good idea to bring it back. Bestival, Beth’s Festival; my first and favourite festival. 

I will be performing twice on Saturday

@ 1.30 pm in the Big Top with Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip 

@ 21.15 in the Polka Tent with B.Dolan, Buddy Peace, and Dan Le Sac.

These gents took me to Manchester with them on Tuesday and I can’t wait to perform the songs again. Then I’ll be frolicking through the site, and later haunting people with magic, Rabid Ballads, and someone else’s alcohol. I look forward to seeing you there.

Breakfast Sex @ Favela Chic

Here is a thank you note to all those present at Favela Chic last Wednesday, it turned out to be a really special gig/experiment for us, and my super-high new shoes. 

It was the first time we played as a four-piece with Josie Lloyd on Kora + Violin + Voice , Tom P on Bass + Voice , and Luke Christie on Drums + Voice. These guys are superb musicians, composers, and people. I am so happy to have found them and that they’ve been/are on this journey with me. Please, please, please check out their solo work as soon as you finish reading this. Please, please, please. 

So, we played Running, The Deep (R.Kelly Remembered, Suede - an improv, Rule Andromeda, Robot Boy and finished with the live debut of Powerman. I felt a new feeling by the end of our show, can’t say it has a name, can’t say I mind that either; but people cried. It was kind-of weird, yet equally appropriate. 

Others said our show was like a ‘soft orgasm’ - the kind you have the morning after.  A close friend calls this breakfast sex. I hope the feeling sticks. Yes, until next time.
